Rams Head in Coral Bay
http://www.stjohtour.com has this beautiful picture of Rams Head on their website. It is a great site to see many more hiking trails.
Full moon hikes to Rams Head are magical. A group of us would all hike down to the beach at Salt Pond Bay around 5 pm. From there we take the Rams Head trail that winds around to Blue Cobblestone Beach. During the day, this is a great beach to snorkel at.
The trail continues on the south side of the beach. Take the trail marked ‘Rams Head Trail’. This trail has many switchback that go up steep terrain through a cactus forest. The barrel head cactus bloom and the little red fruits are edible. They taste like mini Kiwi. They are ripe when they pop over half their bodies out of the cactus.
When you reach the top there is a dramatic 360° view that has the cleanest air anywhere in the world. This is due to the fact the closest thing from this spot looking east would be Africa. The eastern exposure is rugged and windy with waves crashing far away down the jagged rocks in contrast to the west view that is tranquil and serene.
Our footpath is lighted by the full moon all the way back. Bring a flashlight in case there is any cloud coverage. The one mile trail can be dangerous at time and though we did take the kids, they must be well supervised.
This is an evening that magical memories are made from.
