Summer in St John?
2009 June 11
Mosquitoes, rain, heat and possible hurricanes. What does all this mean?
The most beautiful, lush, green, aromatic, non-crowded island St John can be.
Is it worth putting up with all this?
No if you like everything meticulous and don’t mind crowds.
Yes if you like an adventure.
The less people, the more laid back the locals get. The better the vibe of the whole island is.
A good time to take pictures, meditate, enjoy the open spaces on the beach. The better deals on activities, mementos and overnight accommodations.

As for the mosquitoes, there are lots of them after a rain. be prepared with natural bug repellent, wear 2 sorongs, one to cover your head, neck and shoulders and one to cover your feet and legs. Sock and thin long pants and light long sleeve shirt are helpful also. Don’t go to the beach at sunset, watch it from Asolare, or one of the other resturants in Cruz Bay.
Use toothpaste to stop the itch, not a gel but a paste like crest. It draws the sting out along with the peppermint cools the burn. Buy a mosquito zapper and use it in all the dark spots right before you fall asleep. Make sure there is a mosquito net already in place and tuck it in at night. Nothing ruins a vacation more than a mosquito buzzing your ear all night long.
Just sayin’
