Best Deals on Airline Tickets

How to Get the Best Deal on Airline Tickets

Usually the cheapest days and times to fly are Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, when airlines have the weakest demand for tickets.

Airlines often file price increases on Thursday to see if competitors will match their prices over the weekend. Prices rollback on Monday if competitors don’t match their prices. Sales on fairs start on Monday and expire on Friday.

  • Orbitz.com I like the most due to the ease of navigation. I also don’t need to be a member.
  • Kayak.com is a nice site, not only does it search online travel agencies, but also the airlines web sites.
  • Mobissimo.com searches multiple ticket-selling sites and ticket consolidators.
  • SideStep.com is a tool you download that will pop up every time you search for airline tickets. It will ask you if you want it to also search. If yes, it goes to over 200 different places to find cheaper prices. It merged over a year ago with Kayak.
  • FareCompare.com offers different ways to search: last minute airfare, cheapest airfare. It shows cheapest tickets available for the next 11 months. You can also search for cheapest ticket from where you want to depart to anywhere. This is good if you just want to get away but don’t care where too.
  • Getyouhome.gov is a website to help you understand when you need a passport. It also talks about a passport cards and enhanced driver’s license and Trusted Traveler program cards instead of a passport to travel with.

Don’t forget Spiritair.com as a cheap airline that flys into St Thomas (STT). Just remember when you quote a price it is before taxes and who knows what else plus many airline carriers do not include baggage fees. Spirit is $15 first bag and $25 second bag. This is if you pay ahead of time.

Spend a little extra time on the research and it could put more money in your hand to spend on food or activities once you arrive at your destiny. Hopefully that destiny will be Coral Bay, St John, Virgin Islands.
